Polypropylene

Polypropylene is a great value for money entry level carpet fibre. A good choice for rental properties or a less expensive option to brighten up any space in preparation for sale.

The product is solution dyed, meaning that the fibre/yarn is dyed prior to production of the carpet, not sprayed onto the carpet after production.

Polypropylene is not as resilient as other fibres; in short, it may not bounce back as well as other fibres with long term foot traffic. Most polypropylene are a level loop style, specifically low pile and tightly looped to offer the best durability. Polypropylene is not great, however, for soil resistance. The fibre is oleophilic, meaning the fibre attracts oils, so any oil based spill will not clean out easily.

Polyester

Polyester carpet for homes is a soft, comfortable and balanced performer that is affordably priced. Polyester fibre gives off a high lustre appearance in comparison to nylon carpet of the same colour.

Polyester appears much more vibrant, whilst nylon is matte in appearance. Polyester is a closed cell fibre, which means it has great stain resilience. Most spills won’t penetrate the fibre, however, this does not make it completely stain resistant.

Like polypropylene, its soil resistance isn’t high. Any oily residues will grab the fibre, which could make it difficult to remove. The oil becomes like a magnet, grabbing other residues it may come into contact with. Most synthetic fibres aren’t eco friendly, however polyester is.

Quite a lot of polyester carpets are now made from recycled PET bottles, which helps keeps these bottles out of landfill.

As far as durability, polyester is not as robust as nylon. We generally recommend it for lower traffic areas such as bedrooms as opposed to a hallway, which is high traffic.

Like polypropylene, it is a cost-effective fibre and offers great value for budget driven renovations or sprucing up a home for sale.

Solution Dyed Nylon

Solution dyed nylon is a robust fibre with great durability for everyday family life. This fibre has a fabulous ability to retain colour, making it less susceptible to discolouration, fading or bleeding.

Solution dyed fibres are some of the most colour fast in the industry. The colour is locked into the core of the yarn fibres prior to the manufacture of the carpet. Maintained as per the manufacturer's guidelines, this beautiful carpet fibre will look impressive for many years.
